John Payne

Advisory Board Member

John Payne is an experienced technology industry CEO with a track record in Software as a Service, consumer and small business Internet services, enterprise software, network and application security, wireless and the mailing industry. He currently serves as the Chairman and President of SimpleAir, Inc., a technology licensing company active in the smartphone and other mobile markets and is an active investor and advisor to early stage companies. 

 

Mr. Payne is the former Chairman and CEO of Stamps.com (NASDAQ: STMP), a profitable pioneering “software-as-a-service” provider that leads the market for postage delivered over the Internet from the US Postal Service. While at Stamps, he led the development of the company’s operating business and the company’s $65 million IPO and a $365 million secondary offering co-managed by Goldman Sachs and Salomon Smith Barney. In addition to his experience at Stamps.

 

Mr. Payne served as CEO of other public and private technology companies, including Preventsys, a provider of network security and regulatory compliance (Acq’d: NYSE: MFEE), enterprise content management software provider Day Software (SWX: DAYN Acq’d: Adobe), two companies in the financial services regulatory compliance space, FMI (Acq’d: Nasdaq: PROI) and LoanStar (Acq’d: Bankers Systems, Inc./Wolters Kluwer AEX: WLSNc.AS) plus other early stage, venture capital backed software and technology companies.

 

Mr. Payne is an experienced fundraiser who has raised over $550 million in public and private equity, including $175 million+ in early stage venture capital raised from well-known venture firms and strategic investors.

 

Mr. Payne also led as CEO the prosecution of four portfolios of issued and pending patents at the US Patent and Trademark Office and is the lead or co-inventor of multiple patents in those portfolios in Internet security, wireless messaging, mobile applications and social search.
